Fort Detrick to Celebrate the Army’s 244th Birthday

(FORT DETRICK, Md.) — Fort Detrick will celebrate the U.S. Army’s 244th Birthday with a ceremony and cake cutting event June 14 at 11 a.m. on the Blue and Gray Field pavilion on Fort Detrick.

Performing artist Ellouise Schoettler will present “Ready to Serve”. Ellouise Schoettler is a spoken word artist known for researching stories of unknown women, bringing them to life with heart and humor. “Ready to Serve” is a program created from letters nurses sent home from France during WWI.

“We hold this observance to not only celebrate the Army’s history but to focus attention on our Army’s achievements, honoring our Soldiers and civilians, our Army heroes, who, time and again, protect and secure the freedoms we hold dear,” said Fort Detrick U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. Scott Halter.

A cake cutting ceremony will take place immediately following the presentation by Ellouise Schoettler.
