Juvenile Continues To Be Held In Fatal Fair Attack

Both sides are still working on arranging a waiver hearing.

Frederick, Md (KM) A 15-year-old boy charged in the fatal assault of a Mount Airy man at the Great Frederick Fair in September will continue  to be detained. The State’s Attorney’s Office says Circuit Court Judge Julie Stevenson Solt held a detention review hearing on Wednesday, and ordered that the youth remain in juvenile detention until the next review on January 15th.

The 15-year-old and his 16-year-old brother were arrested in the attack on John Weed, 59, of Mount Airy on September 20th. Weed was taken to Shock Trauma and died the next day.

The 15-year-old boy is charged with manslaughter, 1st-degree assault, and two counts of 2nd-degree assault in connection with the attack on Weed. His 16-year-old brother is charged with two counts of 2nd-degree assault.

Also on Wednesday, Judge Solt ordered the review proceedings for the 16-year-old boy be closed to the public.

The State’s Attorney’s Office says work continues on scheduling a waiver hearing which could result in transferring the case to adult court.
