The fake cop wanted payment for ticket via an electronic payment app
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) – A Maryland man is accused of posing as a law enforcement officer, threatening a driver with a traffic ticket and then offering a discount in exchange for money.
Montgomery County police say Kareem Hart stopped a driver Saturday in a shopping center parking lot. The driver told police he had turned the wrong way on a one-way lane. Police say Hart threatened to write a $250 ticket. But if the driver sent $50 via an electronic payment app, Hart would not write the ticket.
The driver sent the $50 then left to call police. Hart was arrested that night and has been released on bond.
