Pikesville, MD – The Super Bowl is this Sunday and Maryland State Police are reminding motorists to enjoy the game responsibly and to not drive impaired.
23 Maryland State Police barracks will have troopers on the roads, focusing their enforcement efforts on violations to include impaired, aggressive and distracted driving.
MSP Spokesperson Ron Snyder said the Super Bowl isn’t typically seen as a traditional holiday, but still sees high rates of travel and impaired driving.
“Just last year for example, State Police alone made 44 DUI arrests, we had 9 criminal arrests and 12 drug related arrests,” Snyder said. “Also that day, we issued nearly 1,200 citations and 1,000 warnings.”
State troopers will be using a variety of patrol initiatives on Sunday, increasing their presence on the roadways.
Additional troopers will be working overtime assignments Sunday due to the funding from highway safety grants from the Maryland Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
