She’s eligible for Maryland Teacher of the Year.
Frederick, Md (KM) Congratulations go out to Walkersville Elementary School teacher Jill McWilliams. She has been named Frederick County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year for the 2020 and 2021 academic year. . McWilliams teaches kindergarten and first-grade students.
“We had 68 outstanding teacher of the year nominees,” says Dr. Theresa Alban, Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools, in a statement. “The creative ways that Mrs. McWilliams dedicates herself to building connections with students and their families, combined with the ways she encourages students’ support of one another and collaborates with her peer educators, makes her an excellent representative of quality teaching in Frederick County.”
McWililiams is eligible for the Maryland Teacher of the Year Award which will be announced at a Gala on October 9th, 2020, where she will compete with teachers from other school districts. . If she wins that, she would go to compete in the National Teacher of the Year Award.
When it’s safe to do so, the Board of Education says it will honor McWilliams at a future meeting. The School System says it’s also planning a Teacher of the Year special event. Details will be determined based on safety considerations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
McWilliams earned her Bachelor of Science degree in applied learning and development in 1982 from the University of Texas at Austin. She went to earn a Master of Science degree in education, early childhood literacy, from Wilkes University in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2013.
