SHA says crews will be doing some cleaning & repairs.
Dickerson, Md (KM) The State Highway Administration says the Route 28 (Dickerson Road) bridge over the Monocacy River in Frederick County will be closed this weekend, and every weekend through the end of September. Officials says crews will be cleaning the bridge, removing the paint, prepping the span and painting it. They will also repair portions of the upper steel.
Closures will begin on Fridays at 10:00 PM, and continue through Mondays at 5:00 AM.
SHA says some of the equipment must be positioned on the roadway because the bridge is too narrow. A total bridge closure is needed, and it can only be done on weekends due to safety concerns, and the large size of the equipment being used.
Traffic will be detoured using Md. 109 (Old Hundred Road), Md. 355 (Urbana Pike), Md. 80 (Fingerboard Road) and Md. 85 (Buckeystown Pike). SHA advises motorists to give themselves some extra time when traveling through this area.
In addition to the weekend closures, SHA says there will be single lane closures from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays, until the repairs are complete.
