WFMD  Win AP News  Awards

The awards were handed out on Saturday during CAPBA virtual ceremony.

         Frederick, Md (KM)   The WFMD News team scored again.  During last Saturday’s virtual awards ceremony, WFMD was honored with three 1st-place news awards, and two 2nd-place awards by the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
      The CAPBA presented WFMD with the 1st-place award for Outstanding News Operation for non-metro radio.
       WFMD also received 1st-place for Outstanding Year Round Sports.  In their comments, the judges said:  “This  was great.  The play-by-play announcing and overall hosting were both high quality and  fun to listen to.  Even more than that, your enthusiasm for the success of your local community members really comes through.   Made me feel a tingle of pride for your athletes…..and I’ve never been to your town. Excellent work.”
       In addition, WFMD also took home 1st-place for Outstanding Talk Show for “Mid-Maryland Live” which airs weekday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
      The CAPBA also awarded WFMD 2nd-place or Outstanding Newscast and 2nd-place for Outstanding Covering of A Continuing Story, which was the Balloon Bill passed last year by the Frederick County Council.
       The awards ceremony was  held on line this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
        The CAPBA, which represents stations in Maryland, Delaware  and Washington DC, handed out 127 awards this year.  There  284 entries from 22 stations across the region.
