Frederick, Md (KM) A Good-Fund-Me fund raiser has been established to help pay for funeral expenses for Malakai Cooke of Brunswick. The 17-year-old was shot and killed on Friday at the Country Inn and Suites on Spectrum Drive.

Meghan Kee with Go-Fund-Me says in an e-mail  the fund raiser was set up by Quentin Cooke, who is Malakai’s brother. It has raised nearly $15,000 in a single day to help Malakai’s family.

From the Gun Fund Me page, Quentin Cooke had this comment regarding the money raised so far:
“1’m speechless over the amount of support people have shown during these times❤️. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the generosity during this hard time. It’s comforting to know how many people knew and cared about Malakai. Thank you to everyone who reached out to me or any member of my family during this time. This amount of support means a lot to us.”

On Friday, April 16th at around 2:00 AM, Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 5500 block of Spectrum Drive for a report of shots fired. They found Malakai Cooke deceased at the scene. The area was cordoned off as detectives conducted their investigation.

A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said at the time authorities are looking for a person of interest.
