Frederick Police Investigating Auto Wheel Thefts

Thieves takes the tires & the rims off of motor vehicles.

THE CITY OF FREDERICK (8)

Frederick, Md (KM) The regional trend of thieves stealing tires and rims from cars has come to Frederick. Police say two such incidents have occurred recently at the Prospect Hall Apartments. The offenders went  after the tires and the rims of Honda Accords which seem to be a popular target of these individuals.

Authorities say tires and rims are easy to steal, and can be removed within ten minutes. They are not difficult for thieves to sell, and not traceable like most motor vehicles.

Police say ways to protect yourself include buying a lug nut lock, and installing an alarm with a sensor. In addition, you should park your vehicle in well-lit areas, and turn your wheels at a 45-degree angle which makes the lug nuts more difficult to remove. And park close to a curb so that thieves will have a hard time removing the tires.

If you’ve experienced this type of theft, contact the Frederick Police Department. You can call the Tip Line at 301-600-TIPS (8477). Information can be sent by e-mail to [email protected]. Text messages can be sent to 240-674-TIPS (8477).
