Residents who lack transportation can get free or discounted Lyft rides.
Frederick, Md (KM) There’s a way to get there for those who want a COVID-19 shot, but don’t have any means of transportation. The United Way of Frederick County has launched the Ride United Vaccine Access Campaign to provide a way for people who don’t have a car a way to get to a vaccination clinic either free of charge, or at a reduced cost. . It provides them access to Lyft rides in Frederick County.
Anyone who needs a ride to a vaccination center should call the Frederick County Health Department’s COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center for the ride share program. The number is 301-600-7900. Spanish speakers can call 301-600-7905. They can also go on line to www.uwfrederick.org/rideunited.
They can get free rides through an app, or request concierge service if they don’t have a Lyft account or a cell phone. The first $25 dollars of each one-way ride is free to the user.
The United Way says transportation can be a major barrier to people who want to be vaccinated, especially low income families.
