The woman lost control of her motorcycle and crashed on I-70 in Hancock
Hancock, Md. (DG) – An accident Sunday morning in Washington County involving three motorcycles leaves a woman dead, and three others injured.
Maryland State Police responded to the accident on Interstate 70 westbound in Hancock at around 11:25 a.m.
Police report 53-year-old Sandra Kay Wetzel was driving a 1995 Honda motorcycle west on I-70 when she lost control and struck the guardrail. Wetzel was ejected from the motorcycle and ended up in a nearby wooded area. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other motorcycles traveling with Wetzel tried to stop following the initial crash. Both motorcycles laid down and crashed at the scene. The male driver of the second motorcycle, a 2022 Yamaha, and the driver of the third motorcycle, a 2003 Harley-Davidson, were transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment.
A 14-year-old girl who was a passenger on the Harley-Davidson, was flown to Johns Hopkins Children’s Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
