New Market Man Gets Probation Before Judgment

He pleaded guilty in a child pornography case.

Frederick, Md (KM) A New Market man charged with 13 child pornography offenses entered a plea on Monday. Carlos Javier Guzman Cruz, 34, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography which are misdemeanors.

The judge sentenced him to six months of home detention, and probation before judgment. That means the defendant is required to successfully complete his home detention. If so, that means he won’t stand convicted of his offenses. . If not, he would be back before the judge and face some serious penalties.

Guzman Cruz was arrested at his home in April, 2023. He was identified to police through a tip from the National Center for Missing  and Exploited Children. Investigators say Guzman Cruz downloaded numerous images and videos depicting child exploitation and child abuse.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Officer  says these images of child sexual abuse are shared over the Internet, and that means these child victims suffer again each time their images of sexual abuse are viewed.
