Man Who Shot At Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy Convicted

Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

Frederick County Court House

Frederick, Md (KM) A Hagerstown man who was arrested for firing shots at a Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy was found guilty on Wednesday. The News-Post reports that in Circuit Court, Lookman-Khalil Abolajo Bello was convicted of six counts following a bench trial, including firearms offenses.

In March, 2022, Bello fired 12 shots at Deputy First Class Christian Lucente who was attempting a traffic stop. Lucente was not hit, but returned fire, striking Bello three times.

In closing arguments, the defense argued that the state had not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Bello intended to kill the deputy. But Judge Julia Martz-Fisher, who presided over the trial, said the evidence in the case concludes that an attempted first-degree murder conviction was justified.

No sentencing date has been set.
