Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man was sentenced on Wednesday on child pornography offenses. George Joseph Gutman, 41, was given 20 years incarceration with all but 18 years suspended “He had pled  guilty to two counts of distribution child pornography as well as for violation of probation,”  says Joyce King, Chief Counsel for the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office. King says Gutman’s violation of probation was for one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

In addition to his time in prison, King says Gutman be will put on five-year supervision upon his release. “He will have to submit to psycho-sexual evaluation, sex-offender treatment,” she says. “And then there are many specific conditions from supervision such as curfew, geographic restrictions, electronic monitoring, computer monitoring, polygraph testing.”

Gutman also must have no unsupervised contact with minors.

Gutman was arrested on September 27th, 2023 by the Frederick Police Special Response Team which was serving a search and seizure warrant at  his home.  Authorities say they located enough evidence to place  charges against Gutman.

He was charged  with eight counts related to possession of child pornography, and the solicitation of child pornography from minors.  Gutman was also charged with eight counts of distribution of child pornography.

King says on line sexual exploitation of  children is an “unbelievably ballooning crime” right now. “These cases, in particular Mr. Gutman’s  case, it was alarming because what we find is these individuals are, one, recidivists, such as Mr. Gutman; and,  two, they are often chatting and interacting with minor children on line,” she says.

King says in this case, prosecutors did  not have “substantial evidence” that Mr. Gutman was having any children produce these images. . “He was, in fact, distributing these images of children being sexually abused to other pedophiles on line,” she says.
