Third Suspect Arrested In Hagerstown Homicide

He was apprehended in California, and has been returned to Maryland.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) Hagerstown Police say a third suspect has been apprehended in connection with a murder three-and-a-half years ago.. Raymond Garfield Campbell, 36, was arrested in Sacramento, California on March 21st, 2024. . He was returned to Hagerstown on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024.

Campbell is charged with 1st-degree murder and other offenses  for the death of Daynard Devere Johnson. 43,  of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. . .Campbell is currently being held without bond.

Johnson was found shot to death at about  10:30 PM  on October 14th, 2020 in the 300 block of Henry Avenue in Hagerstown.. .

Two other defendants in this homicide, Brock Jerome Smith, and Alexander Daniel Brooks, both of Hagerstown, have entered Alford pleas to 1st-degree assault. That means they don’t admit guilt, but recognize that the state has enough evidence for a conviction.

Smith and Brooks have been sentenced to prison time.
