Cumberland, Md. Man Arrested In Frederick County Following Traffic Stop

The Sheriff’s Office says it confiscated a large quantity of drugs during the stop.

Frederick, Md (KM) A large quantity of drugs was   confiscated Tuesday night during a traffic stop in Frederick County.

The Sheriff’s Office says at around 10:31 PM, a deputy pulled over a vehicle along Interstate 70 near New Design Road for an equipment violation. The deputy noticed some suspicious criminal activity and asked for a canine to do a sniff. The dog alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle and its occupants netted 33 containers of suspected fentanyl weighing 45.7 grams. 12 containers of suspected cocaine weighing 8.4 grams was found  concealed on a passenger. .

Deputies arrested Thomas Smallwood, 38, of Cumberland,   Maryland He is charged with possession of a large amount of fentanyl; possession with intent to distribute fentanyl; possession with intent to distribute cocaine; possession of fentanyl’ and possession of cocaine.

Smallwood is currently being held at the County  Adult Detention Center without bond.

The Sheriff’s Office says Smallwood is under the supervision of the Maryland Department of Parole and Probation for an armed robbery conviction in Baltimore City in 2022.
