Frederick, Md (KM) The area surrounding the Monocacy MARC Station off of Urbana Pike in Frederick County has been designated as a Transit-Oriented Development site by the Maryland Department of Transportation,   That means Frederick County and any development partners have access to financial assistance and planning resources.

County officials say the TOD program encourages the development of housing near transit centers. And that in turn, encourages the use of transit as well as walking and bicycling.

This TOD designation means the county can receive bonus weighing when applying for tax credits to encourage more development in these areas.

The County can also apply for a Sustainable Communities designation more easily, and that makes it eligible for more funding programs.

“The TOD designation will help bring to life the station and our South Frederick Corridors Plan,”  says County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, in a statement. “By transforming redevelopment in the area around the MARC station, our community can be well positioned to meet the challenges of housing affordability, economic opportunity and fiscal responsibility.”

The Monocacy MARC Station is located behind the Target Store off of Urbana Pike.
