Germantown, Md (KM) A quick response helped save lives in Germantown on Sunday afternoon.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue says fire fighters were dispatched to 14843 Poplar Hill Road for a house fire with entrapment. They found a fire in a basement, caused by lithium batteries. Personnel were able to get an elderly resident out of the basement safely. Two other occupants were unharmed, and no displacement was necessary.
Fire officials remind residents that lithium batteries pose serious fire risks if damaged, improperly stored or overcharged. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions, and avoid leaving these batteries unattended when they’re being charged. . If you notice unusual heat, swelling or an odor coming from the batteries, fire officials say dispose of them safely and immediately.
