Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man was sentenced on Tuesday for 1st-degree assault. In Frederick County Circuit Court, Judge Theresa Adams sentenced Logan Hakeem Young, 41, to 25 years behind bars, suspending all but 12 years. Young pleaded guilty to 1st-degree assault on April 30th, 2024.
The State’s Attorney’s Office says on August 24th, 2024 at around 11:00 AM, Frederick Police responded to a domestic incident at 1786 Eagle Rock Lane. They found a 32-year-old woman who told officers that Young, who was her partner, had strangled her and punched her in the face several times earlier that day. The victim also said Young threatened her with a weapon.
Police say they observed visible signs of abuse and strangulation on the victim. Medics were called to the scene, and she was transported to the hospital.
Officers located Young at a local diner just before 3:30 PM that afternoon, and took him into custody.
In court during sentencing, the State read a victim impact statement. “I ignored warning signs; it cost me my safety,” part of it read.
“Strangulation in domestic violence cases is a deadly form of assault,” said State’s Attorney Charlie Smith, in a statement. “We know that a victim of domestic violence who has been strangled, even once, is 750% more likely to be killed by their abuser in the future. The State’s Attorney’s Office works relentlessly with our community and agency partners to hold these abusers accountable for their actions.”
